About the Journal

Editorial Policy

The electronic Journal INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN EVIDENCE - Case Reports is an initiative of the Emilio Ribas Studies Center (Centro de Estudos Emilio Ribas – CEER) in partnership with the publisher Genius Design.

This journal publishes case reports on any healthcare context clearly overlapping with Infectious Diseases and their related areas, thereby aiming a multiprofessional and interdisciplinary scope focused on infectious complications of any medical specialty or area of expertise.

The motivation to report a case stems from the healthcare professional’s experience in caring for patients with rare diseases or of academic interest, when facing diagnostic challenges, adverse effects or complications arising from treatment and innovative procedures, patients with common diseases but with an unusual progression, when overcoming difficulties in treatment and clinical resolution, or patients with conditions involving ethical, moral or legal dilemmas. “Classical” cases with a didactic purpose also fit within the scope of the journal, considering, above all, their teaching and learning potential.

The open-access and free articles will be continuously and sequentially published in the INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN EVIDENCE - Case Reports Journal, always in Portuguese and English. The authors are not responsible for any expenses related to the submission (including the appropriate translation into English or Portuguese) or the publication itself. The peer review strategy includes the Editorial Board and ad hoc volunteer reviewers, who are responsible for technically and scientifically validating the manuscripts, as well as suggesting improvements or even rejecting them, as long as acceptable and duly justified. In this process, all parties will remain in communication while maintaining the anonymity of both authors and reviewers.

Regarding ethical aspects, the INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN EVIDENCE - Case Reports Journal adopts the international guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics - COPE. Since all Case Reports are considered “research involving humans”, the journal also requires the prior declaration of awareness and authorization by the host institution of each case report and the approval of the Brazilian National Research Ethics Commission (Comissão Nacional de Ética em Pesquisa – CONEP) based on Resolution 466/12 and other specific or similar regulations.

The authorship criteria are well defined in the Instructions to Authors, and the Journal holds exclusivity rights over any revision, version or translation of the manuscript, including its eventual sale, as long as in accordance with ethical and moral precepts and with the Brazilian law in force. All articles in the INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN EVIDENCE - Case Reports Journal are published under the terms of international license 4.0 of the Creative Commons Attribution, which allows users to freely read, download, share and adapt cultural and scientific productions, provided that due credit is given to the original authors and publication.

The INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN EVIDENCE - Case Reports Journal will submit all manuscripts to a third-party platform (like iThenticate or Plagium or Dupli Checker) towards identifying the existence of any type of plagiarism. If so, the Editorial Board will inform the authors of the inadequacies in this regard, under penalty of rejecting the article.

The INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN EVIDENCE - Case Reports Journal believes that the raising of external funds for its maintenance, development and promotion is necessary and ethically adequate, either through programs and notices of development agencies (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico – CNPq), Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior – CAPES), Brazilian or foreigners Research Foundations (Fundações de Amparo à Pesquisa – FAPs) or through government agencies, associations, commercial or non-commercial private companies, individual donations and crowdfunding, among other strategies. All individuals and legal entities providing support or sponsorship to the Journal, however, will have no influence or effect on its content and on the technical, administrative and ethical autonomy of its Editorial Board, including the promotion of the Journal in media and social networks, which does not represent an obstacle to the integrity and coherence of its scientific objective.

The INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN EVIDENCE - Case Reports Journal and its editors are committed to not providing the registration data stored on its website at all stages of the submission process for purposes other than the services provided by this publication, not making them available to third parties without prior knowledge and individual consent of each user.
